A Dual Courtyard K-12 School

Architecture and landscape design of 1,10,000 SFT of K-12 school in Pune city, India.

DESIGN FRAMEWORK

It was essential for the client to ensure that the school served as a holistic space where children are able to connect with the natural environment. And the design of the school reflects this ethos in both -  architecture and landscape.

Drawing from the idea of a courtyard – a common vernacular feature in tropical architecture – this school is designed as one linear building but with two large courtyards.

The double courtyards are designed to achieve a comfortable micro-climate of the learning environment ensuring well-lit and ventilated learning spaces for pre-primary, primary, elementary, middle, and high-school children.

With respect to landscape, the building is strategically positioned on the site making sure that existing trees on site are retained.
